Hunter Biden faces nine charges as part of the Department of Justice’s probe into his alleged tax evasion. These charges include failure to pay taxes, evasion of assessment, and filing false or fraudulent tax returns. The special counsel, David Weiss, initiated the new case based on Hunter’s overseas business dealings. Prosecutors assert that Hunter owed $2 million to the IRS at one point, a debt he reportedly settled in 2021 using a loan from a friend.
In addition to the tax charges, Hunter was indicted on gun-related offenses in September. These include making false statements in connection with firearm purchase, making false statements to a federal firearms licensed dealer, and possession of a firearm by a person unlawfully using or addicted to a controlled substance.
It’s worth noting that Hunter initially had a plea deal covering both the federal tax case and the gun charges. However, the deal collapsed in July after a judge rejected it.
