After a deadly dispute between family members, a South Miami-Dade community was left reeling.
After a violent argument broke out at their house near 161st Court and 297th Terrace on Sunday night, a 23-year-old son allegedly shot and murdered his father, as reported by 7News and according to Miami-Dade Police.
A large number of police officers and CSI units responded to the outbreak of violence shortly after 9:30 p.m. in the normally peaceful area. According to investigators who spoke with WSVN, the son stepped in to mediate a fight between the victim and her mother, and violence ensued as a result.
Miami-Dade Police Detective Andre Martin’s statement acquired by the network confirmed that shots were fired. The son himself dialed 911 and patiently awaited the arrival of emergency personnel.
The 46-year-old male victim tragically passed away from his injuries after being transported to Jackson South Medical Center.
Law enforcement is still trying to put together the full specifics of the altercation and the fatal events that unfolded afterward.
There have been no charges brought thus far, and the inquiry is ongoing.
According to 369 News, the mother and boy were taken to the headquarters of the Miami-Dade Police Department for questioning.
Officials stress that the investigation remains ongoing and many questions remain unanswered, including reports that the son, who has not been charged, was involved.
On a typically quiet Sunday night, the sound of gunshots jolted the nearby residents. Witnesses said they heard around ten rounds. “We heard about like 10 shots going off,” an eyewitness told WSVN, describing the terrifying moments. We sprinted indoors as soon as we noticed smoke rising, and the police arrived within ten minutes.
