A Time For Choosing by Ronald Reagan – 1964
Reagan Campaign Address for Goldwater Mr. Reagan spoke in support of Senator Barry Goldwater’s 1964 presidential campaign. In the speech he called “A Time for Choosing” he focused on the importance of a strong defense against Communism and the need to create peace in the world. He said that a government could not control the economy without coercing people. He also talked about the high tax burden of Americans and the increasing national debt. Mr. Reagan was chair of California Republicans for Goldwater. Mr. Reagan changed his political affiliation from Democrat to Republican in 1962 and this televised speech shortly before the November 1964 election was his first major foray into national electoral politics and launched his political career.
